Oscar-winning director Ang Lee’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi is one of the much-awaited book adaptations this year. It tells the story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeeper’s son who finds himself in the company of a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sets them adrift in the Pacific Ocean.

Life of Pi stars Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Adil Hussain, Ayush Tandon, and Gérard Depardieu and is slated for a Christmas 2012 release along with book adaptations like The Great Gatsby and The Hobbit. 

FIRST-LOOK: Director Tom Tykwer and The Wachowskis’ Cloud Atlas

From Director Tom Tykwer and The Wachowskis comes this epic movie, Cloud Atlas. Based on the novel by David Mitchell, the film explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution. The stellar cast includes Tom Hanks, Ben Whishaw, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Hugh Grant, James D’Arcy, Halle Berry and Keith David.

The Dream Lives in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables

Dream the dream in director Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables. The film is based on the musical of the same name, which is in turn based on an 1862 French novel by Victor Hugo. The Oscar-winning director is working with a stellar cast in Les Mis including  Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen,Helena Bonham Carter,Samantha Barks, and Aaron Tveit. Hathaway did an incredibly raw and somewhat affecting rendition to the song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ which made this teaser more interesting and engaging.

Les Misérables is slated to hit the theaters come 14 December 2012.

What Is Real In ‘Total Recall’

Underworld Director Len Wiseman brings you the remake to the 1990 science fiction movie Total Recall. The film stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, and Kate Beckinsale. The story follows Doug Quaid (Farrell) waking up to a harsh realization that his reality may not be real at all; finding out that he is capable of things he did not know existed. The Schwarzenegger-remake promises an action-packed and well-crafted visual interpretation of the 90’s classic.

‘On The Road’ is based on a novel with the same title written by Jack Kerouac. The maddeningly unstructured and untethered look of the film mirrors the book itself. Director Walter Salles took on the challenge to do this project alongside with stars Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, and Sam Riley, who sounds great and appropriate in the voice over via the trailer

Girls, the new HBO comedy created by and starring Lena Dunham and executive produced by Judd Apatow, looks like the anti-Sex and the City. A story of struggling girls in their early 20s who are broke and living in the big apple.

Still pissed with HBO‘s cancellation of How To Make It In America earlier this week but considering that Apatow is on board with this new series, we can expect a new Freaks and Geeks coming our way this April 2012.

Another Snow White In Tarsem Singh’s ‘Mirror Mirror’

There’s two Snow hitting the big screens come 2012. While Kristen Stewart battles it out LOTR style in Snow White and The Huntsman, newcomer Lily Collins dons a graceful Snow in Director Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror. A lighter and comedic take on the Brothers Grimm tale compared to the epic storytelling of Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and The Huntsman.

Collins mentioned in an interview that she actually read for the Huntsman film but she wasn’t able to book the stint. Both films offers a different reimagination of Snow White’s tale so it should be interesting. Tagging along with Collins  are Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, Sean Bean, and Nathan Lane.

Mirror Mirror is slated for a March 2012 release while Snow White and The Huntsman will be out come June 2012.

New Trailer of Nolan’s Epic Conclusion For ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Director Christopher Nolan‘s final installment in the Dark Knight saga promises an even darker Gotham, a terrorized stadium, Anne Hathaway, and an Inceptionesque cast. Nolan was initially hesitant about returning to the series for a third time, but agreed to come back after developing a story with his brother and David S. Goyer that he felt would conclude the series on a satisfactory note.

Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Morgan Freeman. It is slated to rise from the big screens on 20th July 2012.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum.
